Large Drawing Installation 2011, Chrissie Cotter Gallery, Camperdown by Jennifer O'Brien & Cath Brophy
This large site-specific drawing installation by artists Cath Brophy and Jennifer O’Brien questioned our traditional ideas about what constitutes a building. Buildings perform various functions creating multiple connections with people who inhabit them, the social groups associated with them and the community at large. Buildings and human bodies are often perceived as acting as receptacles: in architecture, as a receptacle for space, and in the body as a receptacle for the visceral system. This installation aimed to represent a constant interconnectivity occurring between the body and the structural elements of a building addressing the fluidity of the body and its convertibility. The artists used various drawing tools and surfaces to construct a space consisting of blocks, boundaries, traces and maps.
